Iwo Jima - Sketch
Rough sketch right now, but it'll be for a great holiday coming up.
The most iconic war picture ever photographed was "Flag Raising on Iwo Jima" by Joe Rosenthal, do you know the real story behind the picture?
The easily recognizable picture was caught by complete accident! Before the photo was taken there was an American flag already placed on top of Mount Suribachi, but it was to small for troops on the North side of Mount Suribachi, where fighting was still on going. A Colonel gave orders for the small flag to be taken down and replaced with a new one. Six US Marines went up with the new flag. Joe Rosenthal was already on top talking with a few other people accompanying him. He had his camera in his hand, holding it around his stomach, when someone exclaimed, "Look, they are raising the flag." As Mr. Rosenthal was in the process of turning around he clicked his camera, without focusing the camera or making sure that the subject matter was within frame, we have the most recognizable photo ever. Who would have thought!
